Initiative on Capacity Building for Integrated Assessment and Planning

Workshop and Mid-term Review Meeting

The Economics and Trade Branch (ETB) of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) convened a Workshop and a Mid-term Review Meeting for the Initiative on Capacity Building for Integrated Assessment and Planning for Sustainable Development initiated in 2003. The programme, which is funded by the Norwegian Government, seeks to enhance the capacity of developing and transition countries to undertake integrated assessment and planning with a particular focus on sustainable trade promotion, poverty reduction and sound environmental management. Eleven developing and transition countries are participating in this initiative.

The Mid-term Review Meeting (February 16 - 17) offered an open forum for participating countries to present experiences on implementing the methodology of Integrated Assessment and Planning at the national level and also to exchange experiences and best practices.

Back to back with the Review Meeting UNEP ETB conducted a Workshop (February 14 -15) on Integrated Assessment for the country teams to lay the basis for the further implementation of Integrated Assessment and Planning.

The events brought together more than 50 individuals from participating countries as well as from non-governmental organisations, international organisations and academic institutions, all invited in their personal capacities.

UNEP has developed several documents to support the Integrated Assessment and Planning initiative. Please find those on the right hand side of this page. Additionally, we have uploaded general information about the two events as well as the participating countries' presentations.
