Informal Dialogue on the Possible Establishment of a Working Group on Trade and Environment for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Quito, Ecuador, 18 November 2005
This dialogue hosted by UNEP and the OAS focused on the possible establishment of a Working Group on Trade and Environment for Latin America and the Caribbean. Such a Working Group could provide a forum to actively discuss capacity-building needs and opportunities on topical trade and environment issues and explore ways to promote the mutual supportiveness of trade and environmental policies in the Latin American and Caribbean region. By facilitating regional consultations and policy dialogues, the Working Group may also enhance partnerships and help to ensure that capacity-building activities respond to regional needs. During this dialogue representatives of the Ministries of Environment and Trade, the private sector, NGOs and IOs explored the potential for enhancing collaboration with institutions and groups working in the field of trade and environment in the region.
