Preparatory
Workshop on Integrated Assessment of Trade Liberalization
in the Agriculture Sector
Geneva, Switzerland, 11 Feb 2002
This preparatory
workshop gathered Geneva-based experts in the assessment of the environmental
and related economic and social effects of trade-related policies
in the agricultural sector, to discuss the design of a new set of
country projects to be launched in March 2002.
The following issues were addressed during the Workshop:
(1) Which crop/sector is the most suitable to show clear environmental
impacts?
(2) How the sustainable development priority of the country plays
the role in designing the assessment?
(3) Which countries could be representative samples of the different
policy priorities at the WTO negotiation?
The meeting contributed to the selection of the third set of country
projects to be determined at the next meeting scheduled in March 2002.
